CSIC members have asked for a in-person Annual General Meeting since 2006, when the Directors first announced that all AGM will be held only electronically. We have had the opportunity to see how such AGM works for the first time in September 2008. The Chair had a full control over who will be allowed to speak and what questions will be asked. The members could not see who is trying to ask what. Our only opportunity to discuss anything was in a online chat - and that soon got out of control. Members were frustrated that their questions are not being answered and that they are being ignored.
In March 2009, we had another AGM. This time, the chat feature was disabled. While there were 700 members at the AGM, we had no opportunity to discuss anything that was said. Again, the Chair had a full control over who will speak and what questions will be answered. That, in our opinion, is not democracy.
