Education Committee

I have been working as a co-chair of Education Committee in Ontario branch of CAPIC for the past year. We have a lot of plans for the future – our objective is to deliver quality content and affordable program for every member of CAPIC. Many of our educational sessions were accepted for Continuing Professional Development program by CSIC.

Last year, we introduced CAPIC Breakfast Club. These short but intense 2-hour sessions have been conducted almost every second Wednesday at CAPIC National Headquarters in Toronto. Many of these sessions were designed to help members meet the educational requirements of CSIC. Others were dedicated to topics of interest to CAPIC members. The interest was overwhelming – our only problem is getting enough colleagues to present the topics.

Ontario is also organizing full-day educational seminars that are popular among members. Successful realization of these projects is a result of teamwork of Educational, Events and Communication Committees. CAPIC members work hard, on a volunteer basis, to help their colleagues to gain knowledge vital to their ability to work as immigration consultants.

My co-chair is Peter Bernier. Peter has been in charge of the breakfast seminars and I was helping the Ontario Events and Communication committees organize full-day educational seminars.

We would like to expand the breakfast seminars to cover more topics and offer something for everybody. We are also working on having these seminars approved by CSIC to allow its presenters and participants to claim CPD points.

We are looking into the possibility of having all educational events recorded and transmitted over the Internet. The outcome will depend on financial feasibility and interest of members.

We are always looking for volunteers – if you are a specialist in one area of immigration, we would like to hear from you. You would be helping your colleagues and hopefully, gain valuable CPD points in the process. Please contact Peter or me if you think you could help.
